SUMMARY: Provide a decent multitrack mixes of the FOUR songs worked on in the Monday 6/8 rehearsal. The method was: get a good mix of Get Around You stick with that mixas that simulates being unable to change the mix during a performance with no sound-man.
Zip file with all the MP3s:
OVERALL: Progress was made, but there’s a lot to do and we only worked 4 songs and none of them are where we want them to be. DISCUSS: What can we do to get better faster?
INDIVIDUAL SONGS:
Gotta Get Around – Positive: Clever lyric, much tighter and getting much closer. Opportunities: backing vocal quality (try to sing straighter, sweeter, on-pitch). Intro and where intro repeats is still not clean. Multiple minor guitar clams.
Gotta Get Around Bass Vocals
Gotta Get Around Drum Vocals
Talk Too Much – Positive: likable song. Opportunities: Rohn to evaluate the drumming and its volume to see how well it matches the jazz feel of the tune. Entry to bridge was bad. Finding Chuck’s harmony and duping it would be nice. Glen vocal scratchiness returns. LATER: Recruiting another singer (female) might be nice. End guitar clam. Intro… How do we get the feel Glen is looking for.
Jesus Give Me Strength – Positive: Likable, pretty clean. Nice bass dynamics really hitting that one kick. Opportunities: Vocals not loud enough. Guitar and bass could be a bit louder (or drums not as loud, DISCUSS. Get around you had the right relative volumes). Closing guitar scratch didn’t work.
I’ll Be Alright – Positive: Likable song, at least on the record. Opportunities: cowbell minor clam. Intro falsetto doesn’t work and should be revisited. Lead vocals are problematic on Chorus. Better but not good on Chorus 2. Backing vocals on verse 1 are not together. Same thing on verse 2 to end. Backing vocals should be less like shouting and more like sweetly singing. Misc minor rhythm not together problems especially the very end. ISSUE: Drop this song until lead vocals improve?
