Played our five songs reasonably well. My thoughts on how it went prior to reviewing the sound:
- A mostly good performance playing likeable music that sounded good (ambition achieved). It was fun without drama (ambition achieved).
- Rohn overplayed (not a problem on the tape mostly).
- I couldn’t find my high notes for backing vocals.
- Glen made some mistakes including lyrics out of order on Baby I’m The Greatest.
Listening to the tape (songs in general are not too long):
- Marry that girl – quite likeable. Lyrics very clear. Guitar solo not loud and enough and with clams. Ooh harmony was mostly missing. Doug crowd voice was a little loud. Good crowd reaction.
- Under The Sun – likeable and not boring classic rock. Backing harmony was problematic. Harmony on verse 2 would be good. Guitar solo started well but lost confidence at the end. Tempo faster than expected but good. Merely OK crowd reaction. Lyrics TV would help.
- Bananas – too fast. Backing vocals were good. Guitar solo ok (and nice and short). Lyrics TV would help. Good crowd reaction.
- Dieing Bed – good intro and Rohn came in right on time. Faster than expected. “Easy” would be better with 3 part harmony. Guitar solo was not bad, just weak. Glen will say Rohn overplayed. Almost a good crowd reaction. Lyrics TV would help.
- Baby I’m The Greatest – lyrics come thru well. Backing vocals improve the song. Compared to the chart Glen sang the lyrics out of order. Breakdown. Good crowd reaction.
Overall – likable. Sounds good. Keeping the songs short is good. Good intros to songs. Here’s the opportunities for improvement (in order of importance):
- guitar solos are an opportunity for improvement (both notes and guitar sound/volume) otherwise no need for more players
- more/better backing vocals
- starting songs with the desired tempo
- lyrics TV
- more reverb, etc. on Glen’s vocals
- a little less dead air would be good.
