MKP20251006 Sextet Practice

Good practice and hard work. It will be more fun when we can play these tunes with the same confidence that we have with L-O-V-E.

ACTION: SATIN DOLL.. Norm to re-jigger his sax parts so he and Chuck can play it down a whole step (in B flat).

SUMMERTIME

Summertime with double time instrumental… Reasonably good, could use more confidence from most of us. Also, double the instrumental break.

ACTION: Matt to work on the bach-like intro.

ACTION: Matt and Norm to discuss how to share (conversation) the second time thru during the instrumental break.

Here’s a recording with vocals muted for Rohn to practice with:

L-O-V-E

Loved Chuck’s harmony. Please add more and add to other tunes as makes to you. Nicely performed given we hadn’t played it in months. Nice guitar improvisation. Rohn moved away from his mic after the instrumental breaks.

You’d Be So Nice

We made a lot of progress working out the form and tempo. Rohn’s singing will be good, but could use more confidence.

Herer’s a recording with vocal muted for Rohn to practice with:

The Shadow Of Your Smile

Has potential… I like the guitar picking backing. Would like more of Chuck and some tasteful bits from Norm. Of course, Rohn needs more confidence with the challenging melody. Rohn should let us know when he’s ready to try this again.

Here’s a recording for Rohn to practice with where Chuck is playing the melody:

Alone Together

Rohn lacks confidence. He should let us know when he’s ready for us to try it again.

Here’s a recording with the vocals muted allowing Rohn to practice (Matt should listen to see if his guitar part is working with Norm’s keyboards while Rohn would be singing):

How High The Moon

Here’s an instrumental version. Rohn should see if he wants to sing it in this key. NICE KEYBOARD SOLO. Doug needs to work more on trading fours and keep his focus. NICE GUITAR SOLO.
