SUMMARY: Good rehearsal. Getting closer. Should be able to play all songs reasonably well next rehearsal. King of the Road is furthest from being ready.
Here’s zipped together all the MP3s.
TECHNICAL: Bass direct completely didn’t work AGAIN!. I would have caught that had I brought my tablet. Also, get my phone working with the mixer in Glen’s basement.
Reduced reverb on backing vocals. Glen’s vocals need it. Backing vocal levels set with Go To The River
Adjust kick drum EQ.
Go To The River – SUMMARY: Much improved.
- IDEA: Do something like what we did to V1 to the first Go To The River (stops, whole notes but louder).
- WORKS: Acapella go to the river at the end.
- WORKS: Guitar sounds is excellent. Also, the rhythm guitar strumming pattern once its fully going works.
- IMPROVE: Backing vocals should have a harmony part.
- IMPROVE: Backing vocals consistency every phrase every time.
- IMPROVE: Matching Glen’s phrasing when singing (e.g., Glen stretches water out).
- IMPROVE: Consistency in guitar solos.
- IMPROVE: Maybe a bit more tasteful and less busy V1 drumming. Rohn’s choice.
King Of The Road – SUMMARY: desperately needs work. Did not do a single complete take.
- WORKS: Very beginning with Rohn accapella.
- IMPROVE: Doug’s idea take it or leave this. Would be nice if it builds (add Rohn percussion or clapping more than just quarter notes and Doug bass and building guitar).
Can’t Get No Grindin – SUMMARY: One of these blues songs a night works well. Stops work. Could be performed but could be improved.
- WORKS: Introduction (could be edited shorter. Skip the shoulders. Suggested: This next song is by the Great Muddy waters who heavily influenced? ROHN: Rolling Stones, DOUG: Cream, GLEN: Led Zeppelin). Click off while Glen is saying Led Zeppelin.
- WORKS: Backing vocals.
- IMPROVE: Rohn a little louder.
- IMPROVE: Glen lyrics hesitation in both the first two verses.
- IMPROVE: Ending tightness.
Work It: SUMMARY: Not bad. More repetitions would help.
- WORKS: Glen’s lead vocals.
- WORKS: Rhythm guitar.
- IMPROVE: Guitar solos sound empty.
- IMPROVE: Backing vocals consisttency.
When Love Comes To Town: SUMMARY: Going to be good and is getting closer.
- WORKS: Having the Yays in the middle. Big improvement.
- IMPROVE: We should use this for our sound check. Rohn is not loud enough. I’m going to boost him for this song.
- IMPROVE: Glen should listen to the various recordings and see that the first YAY is better with all three of as was mentioned in the form sheet handed out.
- IMPROVE: ROHN HAS TO REMEMBER HIS NEXT BIG SINGING PART IS THE THE JUKE JOINT VERSE.
- IMPROVE: Rohn has to remember to keep playing thru V4 (after the middle YAYS!).
- IMPROVE: Lead guitar sound is not big and full enough most of the time.
- IMPROVE: Glen needs to listen to the V4 break down and think about how it can be more consistent and edited down with less dead air maybe.
- IMPROVE: Rohn could phrase “Maybe” closer to Bono shortening the “May” part.
- IMPROVE: Rohn could be more consistent on singing the right lyrics.
Get The Log Out: SUMMARY: making a lot of progress. Likable song.
- WORKS: Nice sound.
- WORKS: Ending.
- IMPROVE: Glen stumbled in the lyrics of the first full Get the Log Out.
- IMPROVE: Backing vocals singing when they should (check form sheet).
- IMPROVE: Agree on the form. Maybe the form sheet is wrong having a chorus after the instrumental.
- IMPROVE: Backing vocals sing Take That Step during the ending.
- IMPROVE: Rohn to review what his “Get The Log Out” tone sounds like.
Bear The Cross: SUMMARY: lots of progress. Followed the form pretty well.
- WORKS: Stops at the beginning.
- IMPROVE: Glen confidence the lyrics. Two slip ups on V2. The form sheet has the lyrics.
- IMPROVE: Glen consistency and confidence on guitar solo at the end.
- IMPROVE: Rohn execute drum fill before closing guitar solo.
- IMPROVE: Guitar sound is ok, but could be better (more biting which probably means more treble).
- IMPROVE: Harmony on the chorus and bridge would help. Probably won’t happen.
- IMPROVE: Beat count to closing acapella. We should run that five time next rehearsal.
