SUMMARY: Provide rehearsal recordings with Doug’s notes.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Good rehearsal. Really just minor areas for improvement for everything except Straight No Chaser (which needs more repetitions) and Only Darkness which still needs a lot of work. I would drop it from the set. There we 12 countable Lyric Clams. What’s the next step on reducing those?

Here’s a zip file of all the MP3s:

NOTES PER SONG & SONG MP3:

Straight No Chaser… Sounds good… Glen please sit out during my fours solo. In general it needs more repetitions.

Jesus Give Me Strength – Sounds good… Lyric clam. Guitar sound could be better accompany. Solo guitar sound is ok. Ending was not clean.

Get Away From Me – Sounds good. Drums sound good. Backing vocals good… minor bass clam at the beginning of the instrumental break (A instead of F#). Lyric clams 2 & 3. No talking at end of a take, please.

Love Cries Mercy – Sounds good after turning down the bass… Minor guitar clams in intro. Bass too loud (adjusted in the mix). Lyric clam 4. Vocals too loud [corrected in mix] (sing softer or further from the mic on this one although the sound man should eventually correct it). Dynamics in All I Got to say didn’t really work (vocals mercy should have been bigger and louder). Solo guitar sound could be better (distortion) at the beginning. Guitar clams in closing solo (before the quiet picking).

Dyin Bed – Sounds good. Drums are good. Backing vocals are good. Good into with drums (don’t ooh yourself)- happy with the guitar sound in the intro? Lyric clams 5 & 6 & 7. Good stinger at end.

All Over Now Backing Vocals Before… Needs improvement. Especially drum vocals. Bass vocals too loud.

All Over Now Melody Rohn Should Sing:

All Over Now Glen’s Recommended Harmony For Doug:

Only Darkness… Not even close. Lyrics clam 8. Be prepared to drop from set list. Vocals going in and out volume. Guitar clams. Bass gets lost on the 7s.  Lyrics clam 9 & 10. Vocal falsetto sound is it ok? I vote for dropping it from the set list. This is the only take of the whole song we have.

Only Darkness Bridge… Doug should work on this. Guitar intro riff still lacks confidence after all those repeititions. Drums are not big enough starting with “racing”. Vocal volume drops out on “I’m just glad to know I got you here with me.” I was going to call that a lyric clam, but it’s just so soft it can’t be heard.

Funk 49 Limited – Followed the form OK. That’s an accomplishment… Doug backing vocals should aim at “sweeter” (less gravel). Lyrics claim 11. Transition to percussion break was ok. Glen’s jungle noises too much  and too loud. Lyrics clams 12 & 13.
