SUMMARY: Rough Mixes From yesterday afternoon’s GFS rehearsal.
Here’s a zip file of all the MP3s:
NOTE: Mixing was done by rough mixing the crowd vocals for the last bit of recorded Gotta Get Around and then adjusting the Guitar volume UP for the beginning of Fly In The Ointment where it was much too soft. No adjustments thereafter. Of course, the bass direct was not connected and the bass is mostly missing throughout.
Here’s my notes on all the songs: 20260618 REHEARSAL NOTES: OVERALL: Songs are now reasonably tight but not close to perfect. Glen missed the form more than once. We still don’t start songs at the right tempo. Doug should improve operating the slides. We should find time for one more rehearsal (maybe Friday afternoon) to just run the set twice more.
Whole Rehearsal With Everything For Rohn:
Fly In The Ointment – pretty good. Check Doug’s backing vocals and improve. AFTER LISTENING TO THE LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Doug should add some backing vocals to V2 (and really practice them). Call and response pretty good. Bad guitar notes at the very end.
Alright OK – pretty good. Glen needs to hit his intro and guitar solo notes more consistently. AFTER LISTENING TO THE LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Pretty tight. A little more guitar confidence in the intro would be better. Good solo. Backing vocals: Doug should be louder when Rohn doubles the melody.
Black Beans – pretty good. Slide always sounds good. Glen missed the form in at least one take. Rohn to follow Doug on when to echo lyrics. AFTER LISTENING TO THE LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Crowd backing vocals are nice. Glen vocals vary in volume when they shouldn’t. Drums hesitate at the end of the first couple of bars when they come in. Better if they didn’t.
Master Plan – pretty good. Inconsistent starting tempo. AFTER LISTENING TO THE LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Pretty tight. Slide sounds good, but is not quite completely consistent. Guitar should sit out in chorus boththe first “cuz the Great I Am” and on the first “has a master plan” to leave room for vocals. Drums into the guitar solo are SWEET. Solo was uneven.
Talk Too Much – pretty good. Doug do to the high riffs on the 3ird verse. Rohn to settle into what he wants to play. AFTER LISTENING TO THE LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Seems good. Sounds good. Intro not clean (don’t stretch out too much). Glen missed lyrics in Verse 1 & 2. Drums are good. Entry to the bridge was bad (guitar, I think).
Get Around You – pretty good. Glen has shifted to playing to slower. I hope his consistent with that in the actual performance. Rohn made progress on when to shuffle and when to do triplets at the end of the verses. More consistency on the round-robin vocals needed. AFTER LISTENING TO LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Better than I remembered. Round-robin vocals are a definite improvement. As always, is Glen happy with his guitar sound. Doug thinks it could be improved with a fatter sound.
I’m Gonna Be Alright – FIRST IMPRESSION FROM MEMORY pretty good. Rohn needs to remember to sings “It’s all gonna burn” intro. Rohn to hit the stop (not sure where it is). AFTER LISTENING TO LAST COMPLETE TAKE: Pretty good. Rohn to sing “It’s all gonna burn”. Backing vocals good enough (shouting ok)? Guitar to hot in the mix at points. Rohn to learn lyrics and when to sing.
